Gun Nuts throw verbal rocks at The Wounded Warrior Project

"Wounded Warriors Project called legal scam as scandalous news spreads"

Follow the link to read the article. http://www.gunssavelife.com/?p=10373

The title of this blog post on the surface sounds like a scandal in the making, until you read the article and research the organization behind it. It is in fact very defamatory and bias.

Taken directly from their website:

"Guns Save Life is a regional civil rights organization that works
to educate the public about the benefits of firearm ownership.

The group had its origins as a county grassroots committee of the
Illinois State Rifle Association in about 1995, initially meeting
in Rantoul, and later holding its monthly meetings in the Jolly
Roger restaurant in Urbana, IL.

GSL was later incorporated as its own non-profit corporation and
today represent gun owners in Illinois, Indiana and beyond in
proactive grassroots activism promoting and defending firearm
rights and the civil right of self-defense."

However, the only Civil Right they defend is their version of the Second Amendment.
From the article, it seems the GSL took offense when the Wounded Warrior Project didn't immediately support their organization. They are all about guns and the Bible. You know the type, "Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition."

The Wound Warrior Project refused to allow the GSL to use their logo or to have their brand connected with them, so they threw verbal rocks at the salaries the WWP's officers and their fund raising events.
Just reading headlines can be very dangerous practice. It's easy to be mislead. But if you take the time to read and research with the first question being, "Who benefits?" you learn the truth about the who, what, where, and more importantly the why.

Horses and Heroes combines the concepts a talk show with that of a documentary, by combining the spontaneity of a talk show with the scripted informational aspects of a documentary. It will utilize both interviews and practical demonstrations of horse therapy to give the audience a full understanding of how and why working with the horses help veterans heal. Although Equine Therapy will be the stage, the primary focus will be on the eight veterans as they sharing what they experienced while they served our country and how those events had a lasting effect on their lives as well as on those who love them.

Paul West: Surf Warrior Project

Until You Walk The Path, You Won’t Know Where it Goes will be chatting with Veteran Advocate Paul West on July 3, 2014 at 1 pm eastern. West will shares his experiences and the benefits of the Surf Warrior Program.

An East Coast Legend and has over 32 years of surf industry experience. Paul West has also traveled internationally for many years as a Surfing Ambassador promoting the sport of surfing in a positive way. He is an excellent role model in all respects and loves to share his knowledge of the ocean with others. Paul has been introducing the sport of surfing to people for virtually his entire life and he hopes to help you fulfill your surfing dreams. He is very active in the community, not only locally but worldwide.

Paul West became the competition director for the USSF in 1998 After years of competitive surfing, he found himself on the promotional side of surfing. His experience with the contest scene is unparalleled. He has ran the surfing competition for the East Coast Surfing Championships – ECSC for the past 30 + years as well as several hundreds of other contest. One of the premier programs that Paul was instrumental in developing is the Super Groms. It began 15 years ago at ECSC with a “free” push and surf beginner level – introduction to surfing for kids 10 and under. Another outstanding program that Paul and the USSF has developed is the Surf Warrior. It is a partnership with the Florida Surfing Association and the Wounded Warrior Project. It is now in it’s 4th year and has grown into a national program. Teaching veterans at the WWP how to surf and eventually compete in the ECSC. This program meets weekly during the summer in a variety of locations.

The USSF was once the national governing body for the sport of surfing in the United States and now has progressed into an institutional and philanthropic organization, touching lives directly and impacting the sport of surfing at a grass roots level. If you would like more information or would like to become involved please contact us.

The Surf Warrior Program was developed in 2011 by the United States Surfing Federation in partnership with the Wounded Warrior Project™ (WWP). The program began in Jacksonville Beach, Florida with the help of the Florida Surfing Association who supplied the equipment and instructors. The Wounded Warrior Project selects 8 vets who get to learn to surf during a six-week program while developing an ever-lasting “surf family.” WWP’s purpose is to raise awareness and enlist the public’s aid for the needs of injured service members; to help injured servicemen and women aid and assist each other; and to provide unique, direct programs and services to meet their needs.

In 2012 the program grew to two more regions on the east coast; Navarre Beach, Florida and Virginia Beach, Virginia. The Surf Warrior Program also held their first championship at the East Coast Surfing Championships in Virginia Beach. 3 Surf Warriors were selected from each city and given the chance to become the ultimate Surf Warrior!

The original goal of the Surf Warrior program was to change the vet’s lives through the power of the ocean. The program proved to do just that has a group who participated in the Surf Warrior program for the past two years out of Jacksonville Beach, now hold their own “surfing sessions” every Saturday morning.

How to avoid another Fort Hood

It has been known by many names.   During the Civil War, it was called “Soldier's Heart”.    During World War II they called it "Shell Shock".   It has also been called "Combat Fatigue".   The current label is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PSTD.

In the past, it was down played.  Sufferers were told to man up.  They were medicated, but instead of healing the medication turned them into zombies and created more emotional issues, which frequently had tragic results.  Many have tried talk therapy.  Results were limited.  Most military personnel thought that only one who had lived through the experience could possibly understand the emotional and physically toil of war.   Buddy therapy is an effective, but it is also limited by the number of veterans available and willing to participate.

No matter how it has been labeled, the emotional and physical ramification have caused have had tragic consequences in some veterans lives.  It has cost them jobs, marriages, their freedom...even their lives.  The shootings at Ford Hood are prime examples of how the over loaded system is failing our veterans.  In the latest incident, the shooter asked for help and was in the process of being evaluated.  But instead of the support he needed his was given drugs to deal with the symptoms instead of dealing with the core issue.  The VA stats state that on average 23 veterans a day commit suicide.  The number only included the eight states that keep records.  Nor does it account for the veterans who suicide by enemy, cop, vehicle accident, fights, drugs or the many other ways they are statistically accounted for on other books.  Many veterans and civilian organization claim the number of those who chose to die rather than live with the pain and guilt to be closer to 200.

Animal Assisted Therapy has been extremely effective for those who are physically and emotionally challenged.   It has become more widely used in cases of PTSD, especially in cases of veterans.  Although almost any animal can be a healer, dogs and horses are the ones most commonly partnered with veterans.  Dogs have the advantage of being accepted in both cities and rural areas.  However, horses are known to better reflect the mood of the person handling them.  This ability is helpful for the PSTD patient to learn how to recognize their own feelings.  In this way, they learn how to retrain their mind and body reacts to stressers, so they can heal what has broken and build a new life.

Horses and Heroes is not about pointing fingers or creating a political firestorm.  It is a documentary, which will help military personnel and veterans find a new way to cope with the physical and emotional challenges brought into their lives by war.  Equine Therapy does not involve drugs nor lying on a couch and spilling their guts.  What it does do is help them find new ways to see and react to their emotional triggers.  It helps their bodies remember how it used to work.  It can't replace what was lost, but it can give them the confidence to see that they are more than the sum of their body parts.  Horses and Heroes will give veterans and military personnel the information they need to find alternative healing solutions, which can help prevent another Fort Hood.

But we need your help to make it happen.  We are looking for six veterans in Michigan, who are willing to go through the therapy and share it with others.   We need investors and product sponsors who want to help our veterans heal their way home.   Please visit our website at http://cproduction5.wix.com/cosmos-productions-#!page3/cee5 and read about how we will help.  Then share our link with your friends, family, and on your social networks.  The six degrees of separation does work when people care enough to  make a difference.

Horses and Heroes: A Healing Documentary for Veterans

People have asked me what we need for Horses and Heroes. What they are really asking is how would helping us benefit them. The answer is very simple. We are offering excellent opportunities to embed products/services in a family friendly documentary that will appeal to a very diverse audience, especially those who are in the military and their families. The paperwork was completed to grandfather H & H into Section 181 of the Jobs Act, which gives investors a K-1 tax deduction equal to what they invest. Our connection with the cable channels make potentially very profitable.

Horses and Heroes will be formatted for cable networks, such as the Military Channel, other Discovery networks, History Channel, AMC, and A & E. We also have a foreign television distributor interested in presenting Horses and Heroes to their European networks. Our director, Larry Wilcox, has a strong connection to a distributor, who has connections with universities, colleges, and medical facilities. However, we will also be sponsoring a very limited theatrical release, which will act as fundraisers for veterans’ organizations such as Wounded Warrior Project, Military Warriors Support Foundation, Coming Home Project, and Operation Second Chance etc. Documentaries and films, which are shown in theatres and in film festivals, receive better network leasing contracts as well as greater DVD/download sales. In addition, the expenses connected to fund raising events would be considered a donation to the non-profit group and thereby they will be tax deductible.

The package would cost approximately the same as one national ad. However, we have broken the time into five segments the three 30 second bumpers and the two the 10 second billboards to make it affordable to smaller companies.

To  learn more about our team, please go to our website at http://cproduction5.wix.com/cosmos-productions-#!page3/cee5. If you would like to know more what we are offering sponsors and investors please contact Theresa Chaze at 231-943-3298.

Why should we help veterans?

Recently I was interviewed on a Southern California radio station.  The topic was our documentary Horses and Heroes.  Although, I am very grateful for the opportunity, between my nervousness and the time limit we weren't able to properly cover the who, what, when, how, and why of Horses and Heroes.  I was able to cover the first four in very general terms.  It was the why that I found myself unable properly answer on air.

Military personnel and veterans are people.  They are not disposable parts of the war machine.  They are not marketing tools to increase corporations' bottom lines.   They are more than the selfless heroes that John Wayne portrayed or Sylvester Stallone's out of control outcast Rambo.  Neither character matches the reality of who military personnel and veterans are as individuals.  As with all large groups of people, there are members who are good, bad, and ugly, yet the media seems to just focus on the two extremes, instead of the telling the stories of the real people.

No matter what branch of service, military personnel and veterans are mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters.  They are our families and our friends.  They are individuals with unique talents and dreams, who chose to stand between our nation and harm's way.  In doing so, they not only permanently changed their lives, but also the lives of those who love them.   For many the life of service is a family tradition that goes back generations.  For them it is more than a job, it is a matter of honor and pride.  It is their way of life.

There are corporations who see military personnel, veterans and their families merely in the terms of marketing demographics.  Their generic messages are tweak to make their products appear to be target audience specific, yet the only thing military about the product is the advertising campaign.  However, not all businesses are looking to exploit military personnel and veterans.  There are many companies, who honestly support them.  Their products specifically focus on the needs and life challenges of those who serve and are more than just another Veteran's Day Car Saleathon.  It may not seem so, but there is a difference between the two.  The former puts their bottom line first and foremost, leaving the human element to be nothing more an after thought.  The latter puts the people first by providing necessary products and services; in doing so they create a balance between human needs and profitability.

Horses and Heroes started as an episode for our TV documentary series about horses, Spirit of a Nation.  However, in doing the research, I learned there was enough information as well as a need for both.  The episode for Spirit of a Nation will encompass all aspects of Equine Therapy; while Horses and Heroes will focus on the how working with the horses helps military personnel and veterans face their physical and emotional challenges.  Horses and Heroes will provide dual benefits.  Not only will it share the personal stories about the effectiveness of Equine Therapy, but we will also be give jobs to veterans already in the entertainment industry and opening the door for those who are looking for a new career.

We all serve in our own way.  Although I would be best described as a Fobbit (It is the equivalent to REMF).  Although the term is derogatory, in my case it is also accurate.    I'm only really capable of shooting off my mouth, but I am very good at it.  I'm a story teller, who tells the tales of those who face their fears and make a difference. I am a researcher that can ferret out accurate information and separate it from BS.  As a producer and editor, I tie it all together in such a way that even civilians can understand.   I might not be able to pull a trigger, but I can back up those who do.

Please help us help our military personnel and veterans by supporting Horses and Heroes.  To learn more please visit our website at http://cproduction5.wix.com/cosmos-productions-#!page3/cee5
