with social entrepreneur and philanthropist Neli Vazquez Rowland on
June 18, .2015 at 1 pm eastern as she talks about the A Safe Haven
Foundation's programs, including the Chicago 2nd annual
Veterans Stand Down.
A
graduate of Loyola University’s School of Business and of the
Minority Executive Management program at Tuck School of Business at
Dartmouth, Neli Vazquez Rowland has chosen to use her training and
innovative interpersonal skills to address the issues of poverty,
homelessness, and the hopelessness that accompanies both. She
firmly believes that social responsibility and a keen business acumen
do not need to be mutually exclusive. Her goal is to inspire and
influence how poverty and homelessness is addressed by connecting
services and leveraging investment resources of public and private
entities. By sharing responsibility and common goals the root
causes of poverty can be addressed by giving others the ability
achieve self-sufficiency.

Safe Haven Foundation (ASHF) is a 501(c)3 not for profit, social
enterprise that helps people aspire, transform and sustain their
lives as they transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency with

poverty and homelessness by uniquely integrates the business models
of non-profit and for-profit social business enterprises. These
enterprises are able to successfully allocate resources and create
sustainable revenue models that produce measureable results in

Safe
Haven Foundation, is once again sponsoring the 2015 5th Annual 5k
RUN! To End Homelessness. The run/walk will take place Sunday, July
12 at Chicago's Douglas Park, located at 1225 S. California Ave. The
event includes the Music Revolution To End Homelessness featuring
local and emerging artists. A Safe Haven is also hosting a separate
Military Veteran Stand Down exclusively for Military Veterans
featuring booths hosted by Employers, Universities, Veteran
Administration and Private Hospitals, and more following the 5k RUN
at the Douglas Park Field House. All proceeds for the event(s) will
go exclusively to help fill the funding gaps for helping the homeless
residing at A Safe Haven throughout the Chicagoland area.

Horses and Heroes is not about pointing fingers or creating a political firestorm. It is a documentary series, which will help military personnel and veterans find a new way to cope with the physical and emotional challenges brought into their lives by war. Equine Therapy does not involve drugs nor lying on a couch and spilling their guts to a therapist. What it does do is help them find new ways to see and react to their emotional triggers. It helps their bodies remember how it used to work. It can't replace what was lost, but it can give them the confidence to see that they are more than the sum of their body parts. Horses and Heroes will give veterans and military personnel the information they need to find alternative healing solutions, which can help lower the suicide rate.
It will provide the dual benefit of also providing jobs. We will be hiring veterans already in the entertainment industry as well as opening the door for those who are looking for a new career.
