Until You Walk The Path, You Won’t Know Where it Goes will be chatting with retired Mix Martial Artist and Animal activist Gordon Shell November 11, 2013 at 4 pm as we chat about his work to end dog fighting and his roll in the documentary, “The Dog Fighter”.
Best know as a MMA fighter, Shell started his fighting career on his high school wrestling team. A natural born fighter, he worked as a bouncer in clubs and as a fighter in underground matches. On the advice of those he respected, he began formal training under Master Randall Lee Moshier and began fighting in legitimate weekend tournaments that eventually led him to NHB (No Holds Barred) fighting in cages with no gloves and very limited rules. After a 24 year career, Shell ended his career for medical reasons.
He now fights to save animal and to end dog fighting. As a staunch supporter of the Human Society., he donated the proceeds of his final fight were donated to them. In 2008-2009 Shell joked about fighting Mike Vick in the gym, which became an idea to raise funds to help homeless dogs. The idea quickly went viral. Although he and others reached out to Vick, there was no response from Vick or his management team and the idea was set aside. In 2011 it was revived during some time spent at a local rescue. Again it quickly went viral at his last fight when UI wore the famous “Fight Me Mike Vick” Tee Shirt. The demand for the shirt and the desire of millions of animal advocates to see the fight grew fast and spread across the web in news stories, UFC pages, news letters and even a fan built “Gordon Shell Vs. Mike Vick” Facebook page that still grows today.
